Candidates for any role within Tap Social Movement and Proof Social Bakehouse must actively support our mission of second chance employment and must understand that they will work alongside individuals with criminal convictions.
We are part of Tap Social, an Oxfordshire-based craft brewery and hospitality social enterprise that provides training and employment opportunities to people from prison and welcoming, inclusive spaces for the whole community. Over the first 9 years of our operations and despite the major challenges of COVID for the sector, we have transformed the lives of dozens of ex-offenders by creating meaningful jobs in our own business and by brokering employment opportunities for prison leavers with our network of partner employers. We’re a rapidly growing business and this growth supports the creation of more job opportunities for prisoners and prison leavers, as well as spreading our message of inclusive recruitment more widely, ultimately scaling our social impact.
Our ambition is for a minimum of 30% of our workforce from time to time to be made up of people with lived experience of the justice system (it is often higher than this). We regularly publish impact reporting data publicly on our progress against these goals. To help us to achieve these aims, our hiring policy is to strive to make sure all appropriate work opportunities within the business are advertised to prisoners, prison-leavers and others with unspent criminal convictions and that where, during the hiring process, we are faced with 2 candidates equally qualified for a role, and where it is consistent with business need to do so, we will give preferential treatment to candidates with lived experience of the justice system, if to do so will help us to achieve our wider impact goals.
